Havana - see & experience

The capital of Cuba has more than 3 million inhabitants, offers countless lovely sites and extends over innumerous districts within walking distance. Famous for its historical old city (Habana Vieja) from colonial times, which is a world heritage site, Havana is still today regarded as one of the most beautiful harbor cities of the Caribbean and oozes with the charm of past eras. The best way of getting to know Havana and its people is by walking through the city with our tour guides. We are pleased to provide you hints and insider information.

Around the cathedral´s square, you can find old palaces, the colonial museum and several bars and restaurants, where you should take a seat and watch the hustle and bustle. Worldfamous are the "Bodeguita del Medio", where the "Mojito" was "invented" and the "La Floridita", where Ernest Hemingway once had his "Daiquiris". You can find Hemingway´s hotel room in the hotel "Ambos Mundos" -  where you can still today visit his room. If you are interested in literature and "real men", you should go to the Finca "La Vigia" of the nobel prize winner, which is only a 20 minute drive south of the old city and overloaded by his hunting trophies and personal things. What you should also not miss is the restaurant "Las Terrazas" in Cojimar, where Hemingway had his dinners with his skipper Gregorio Fuentes, the ideal for his novel "The old man and the sea".

Lovely are also the quay Malecon with its colourful houses and the revolution square, where Fidel Castro delivered his famous speeches - next to the wall painting of Che Guevara at the communication ministry. The fishing cutter "Granma", on which Fidel Castro and his followers came from Mexico to Cuba to start the revolution in 1957, stands in a glass case right in front of the revolution museum. Not far away are also the Capitol, a reproduction of the original in Washington, the old theater and the Paseo, where the Habaneros meet every evening to see and been seen. Since the 16th century, every night at 9pm, a canon shot sounds from the fortress "El Morro", which announced the closing of the harbor with an ironchain in the past - and is today celebrated with the colourful ceremony of the change of the guards. Nice places to sleep, you can find at the several hotels around the Parque Central, close to the Prado, the main shopping mile of Havana. If you want to join the nightlife of Havana, you should start with a diner at the old saloon of the hotel Sevilla and go on to the "Palacio del Salsa" at the Hotel Riviera, the Open Air-Discotheque "1830" at the very end of the Malecon or the “Club Havanna Caffee” at the Hotel Cohiba. Absolutely recommendable is also an unforgettable night at the world famous Cabaret "Tropicana".

Havana is the Eldorado for fans of old cars, the American road cruisers of the 50s. You will be placed back into the glorious past times and feel like in a movie!

There are lots of possibilities to discover the lovely Havana. At day, we suggest a city-tour through the colonial and historic districts of the city centre "Habana Vieja" with its valuable palaces and squares, churches and promenades and the impressive fortresses of the old America. What you should also not miss is a visit of the "Colon"/Columbus-Cemetery" and the quay "Malecon" with the newly-renovated colonial houses.

The modern Havana invites you to visit the square of the revolution, the La Rampa, the district Miramar and lots of other interesting spots. 40 museums, famous cigar- and rumfactories, parks, gardens and the aquarium let you easily stay for some more days. You should also follow Hemingway´s tracks to Cojimar and swim at the Playas del Este. At night we will bring you to the famous spots, like the Cabaret Tropicana, Parisién, Habana Café, Macumba Habana, the salsa-houses Casa de la Musica, Café Cantante, La Zorra y el Cuervo and lots of other music places like the nightbars of the historic centre with live salsa- and will spend unforgettable days and nights in Havana...
