Breakfast. Panorama tour through Baracoa. The Spanish colonial founding city Baracoa was the first Cuban city founded by Spanish conqueror Diego Velásquez in 1512. Back then it had the name Nuestra Senora de la Asunción and the first Cuban colonial port. That is also why it was the first capital and also the first diocese including a cathedral in Cuba. In the Arawakan language that the aborigines of Cuba, the Tainos, spoke, Baracoa means ‘Highlands’.

Baracoa: The picturesque Baracoa is unique with its surrounding tropical jungles and the distinctive mountain peak Yunque (Ambos), which even Kolumbus gazed at when he arrived for the first time. Baracoa had to successfully live through many sieges by pirates and corsairs and many fortresses like the towers of Joa and Caguase as well as the fortresses Matachin (city museum) and La Punta still testify that clearly. Parra’s Cross is also rather famous. It is the cross that the Genoese seafarer Admiral Christoph Kolumbus set up here in 1492 and it is the oldest one of the total of 29 crosses in all of Spanish America. Lunch at a local restaurant.

After that the trip continues to Pinares de Mayari located in the uplands ‘Nipe Crystallo’ at a height of about 600 meters.

Breakfast. Panorama tour through Holguin, the archeological capital of Cuba.
The city Holguin is also called the ‘City of Parks’. This city shows obvious Spanish influences and distinguishes itself with three straight routes.

From Holguin we continue on to the ‘white city’ Gibara. Splendid colonial structures grace this city and two fortresses enframing the port are proof of this city’s history-charged past. From one of those elevated fortresses, the Fort El Cuartelon and the Mirador de Caneyes, you have a wide view into the surrounding area. Visit of the Museo de Arte Colonial. Lunch in the fortress. Return to Holguin.

Accommodation: Casas Particulares with dinner and breakfast.

Therefore it may be the case that tour guides have knowledge of the German language but cannot speak it fluently. Generally English skills are very good, so there should not be any communication issues.
